Did you know Leamington was the home of camouflage during the Second World War?
The Civil Defence Camouflage Establishment was based in three main sites in the town from 1939 to 1944:
· The Old Art Gallery (Avenue Road) – Naval camouflage
· The Loft Theatre site (old roller skating rink – known as ‘The Rink’) – Land based camouflage
· The Regent Hotel – Headquarters
In 2016 Leamington Spa Art Gallery is hosting a camouflage exhibition from 22nd July – 16th October
And we think it’s really important for the whole town to celebrate Leamington’s incredible role as the place renowned artists, designers, and scientists met and developed building and naval camouflage.
And the great people of Leamington played their part too. Check out the History page for more info or Events for details of the celebration!
